Who is Pilates for?
Pilates is suitable for almost everyone! Achieving body balance using key Principles of Movement and Pilates exercises will benefit every other activity of daily life as well as help prevent injury. More clinically based programmes can be given for those clients with specific injuries or conditions. Tam, Jonty and Heidi are all ACC registered. Pilates can be used for: Sportspeople, to enhance their training; Musculo-skeletal disorders; Back & Neck problems; Postural Dysfunction; Pre- and Post-natal exercise; Osteoporosis; Relaxation-stress relief-mind/body control; Injury prevention; Strengthening & toning; Flexibility; Cancer Rehabilitation during pre-op, recovery or fitness phases.

Can I join a group class straight away?
At ZP&P every client starts One-on-One for an Introductory session and then 4 - 5 One-on-Ones to follow before moving into a group setting. We have found this to be the ultimate way for clients to fully understand the principles & develop a relationship between mind and body. The Trainer(s) have the opportunity to tune into each individual’s needs so specificity towards client’s needs and goals is always at the forefront.

Can I stay doing One-on-One sessions?
Absolutely! Group settings are not for everyone so if you prefer to stay with your Private sessions then that is fine with us. Many clients even do a mix of sessions incorporating a one-on-one, a small group class and a mat class into their week.

What do I wear? What do I bring?
Wear comfy soft clothing that you feel happy moving in. Steer clear of exposed zips, domes, buttons etc. These ‘gadgets’ are not so equipment friendly! Bring yourself, reading glasses if you need them, a water bottle and a smile.

How do I get to the Zone Physio & Pilates studio?
The street address of our Studio is 21 Heu Heu Street, Taupo although the entrance is at the back of the building via Gallagher Street. Zip down the alleyway next to Robert Harris Café, veer round to your left and you will see our red door and signage on your left. Come on up the stairs.

Do you have parking?
There is Staff Only parking at the back of the studio so make use of the free parking Taupo has to offer. There are all day carparks on Heu Heu Street next to the BP and also between Roberts and Tuwharetoa Streets. In all the streets around the studio there is 1 and 2 hour parking available. All are within short walking distance to the studio. For those new to Taupo please remember the traffic wardens do their job diligently!

Are your Trainers Qualified?
Yes. Our Trainers are Qualified and Certified to teach Pilates by International Training bodies. Currently all of our Trainers are trained under Polestar Pilates. Tam has also had training with Stott-based Pilates and Victoria with Body Control Pilates. Three of our current Trainers are also Post-Graduate Qualified Physiotherapists. The training completed by our Trainers has been extensive and is an ongoing process. Currently we are also lucky enough to have 2 of our Instructors who are qualified Massage Therapists.

Are children allowed in the studio?
Children are not allowed in the studio unless they are a client of the studio attending their Pilates/Physio session. Trainers/Physios working with their clients are totally focused on their clients and cannot watch out for the safety of children waiting. As well as this, it is important that Mum and/or Dad get their time out and fully connect mind with body during their session.

Why is there a Cancellation Policy?
We have a 24 hour Cancellation Policy where-by Failure to cancel within 24 hours or Failure to Attend will incur a full session fee. This has become a necessity to ensure we have time to refill the slot with clients waiting and to look after the Trainers and their valuable time.

Pilates and Pregnancy
The principles of Pilates and Pilates exercises are very beneficial pre- and post-partum. It is important to note that The American Council of Obstetrics & Gynecology (2002) advise that a pregnant woman should not exercise lying on her back from the 16th week of pregnancy onwards. This position has the risk of compromising the foetal vascular system and possibly the mother-to-be’s vascular system as well. Depending on the timing a client attends through their pregnancy or post partum, our Trainers will ensure that the Education and exercises received are appropriate and safe.

How soon will I notice a difference?
When you become conscious that the Pilates principles of posture and movement are absolutely a way of life then you will walk out noticing a difference in your first 1 or 2 sessions. With some simple Pilates input daily you will start to develop more of a connection with your body and its organisation while still and while moving. Of course Rome was not built in a day so making lasting changes to muscle balance, joint mobility, breathing & an awareness of your Bodymind will take a little more time.

Will I lose weight?
Pilates will tone you, lengthen you, organise your posture and your movement. Although Pilates will not make you lose weight, it balances mind, body and spirit so you are in the best position to achieve in every other area of your life – weight loss included. For weight loss you need to add some form of Cardio Vascular exercise, good healthy nutrition and a positive frame of mind.

I have a new injury, can I still come to my session?
In most cases, Yes. Absolutely! A discussion with your Trainer will help you determine the timing for your return to the studio and in most cases this will be immediately. Healing of any injury must be holistic so Pilates is one of the best environments for this. Session content will be altered specifically for the benefit of your healing so will be appropriate and safe. If your injury comes under ACC then you can see one of our Registered Physiotherapists for Physio like you’ve never had before! This is physio Clinical Pilates style.

Do you teach the classical Pilates Repertoire?
Joseph Pilates was so far ahead of his time his exercises live on. Even the mechanics of the apparatus essentially remains the same. However, modern research has shown ways to improve his methods to ensure they are safe and biomechanically correct. As we, as health professionals, develop more knowledge of the Bodymind we can perfect our teaching of the exercises, the principles and use of the apparatus to achieve even better results with our clients. At Zone Physio & Pilates we are continually learning, updating and refining our knowledge and skills with great respect for the incredible man who started it all.

“Since my first session over four years ago, practising the principles of Pilates has become, easily, part of my life. Tam and her colleagues share their expertise and skill generously and Pilates really has changed my life. To avoid future injury and the possibility of the dreadful back pain that led me to Pilates I now share sessions with my 12 year-old-sports-mad daughter. The studio is one of our favourite places. We arrive stressed and leave stretched, relaxed and full of energy.” – Lianne & Annabelle Fraser
